Tucked beneath old-growth evergreens just minutes from the Nisqually Entrance to Mount Rainier National Park, it’s where mid-century modern design meets the quiet of the forest.
Rooted in Place
Where the mountain meets stillness
Fjellsangin (pronounced FYELL-sahn-ghin) was designed from the inside out — not assembled from a catalog, but built with intention. Locally sourced alder and Douglas fir. Hand-milled details. A cedar-lined sauna is a few steps from the back door. A Jøtul fireplace that takes the edge off a cold mountain evening without asking anything of you.
Every decision was made to honor the landscape and get out of its way. The old-growth forest behind the property does the rest.

Walnut and alder shift with the light. Custom Douglas fir stairs rise with warmth and weight. Live-edge maple shelves echo the forest’s quiet lines. A mother-of-pearl backsplash shimmers like water, while satin bronze hardware brings warmth to every touchpoint.
Even the coffee bar carries the forest inside — its custom-designed silhouette-tree wallpaper and maple shelving creating a moment of calm to begin the day.
Blending mid-century modern architecture with Pacific Northwest craftsmanship, every detail was designed to feel timeless, textural, and rooted in place.

The exterior is crafted from Woodtone RusticSeries — a durable, low-maintenance cladding chosen for its long-term performance and its warm, forest-native look. Inside, locally milled wood, efficient systems, and natural cleaning products keep things honest.
A Level 2 EV charger is on-site for guests who’d rather arrive on electrons than apologies. And because the old-growth forest that borders this property has been standing for centuries, we’d like to keep it that way.

Anchored by lofted ceilings and framed in forest views, the great room is where warmth and stillness meet at the heart of Fjellsangin.
A Jøtul gas fireplace centers the space, its flame reflecting off the walnut and alder details that run throughout the cabin. Above, the vaulted architecture draws the eye upward — capturing the play of light that shifts with each hour of the day.
Hand-knit throws, soft seating, and a curated collection of board games make it easy to stay in all evening. The 65” Roku TV and Bluetooth Marshall speaker are there when you want them — and easy to ignore when you don’t.
The Kitchen
A space built for rhythm and ritual.
The kitchen blends modern form with natural warmth — walnut cabinetry, a fluted walnut island, and luminous Taj Mahal quartzite counters that glow softly in changing light.
A mother-of-pearl coin backsplash catches that light and scatters it gently across the room, echoing the shimmer of snow outside in winter or filtered sun in summer. The large island dining area invites conversation as meals come together.
Live-edge maple shelving and understated satin bronze hardware keep the space grounded in simplicity — a gourmet kitchen designed as much for shared meals as for slow morning rituals.
The Coffee Bar

Custom tree-patterned wallpaper sets the tone — a quiet nod to the forest beyond the windows — while locally sourced live-edge maple shelves hold curated essentials for slow mornings.
Soft light filters across white v-groove paneling and walnut details, creating a space that feels both intimate and intentional.
The bar is stocked with Dillanos Coffee Roasters (DCR) roasted nearby and Apolis Teas from Sumner, Washington, with several ways to brew: Keurig, drip, or French Press, depending on your morning rhythm.
It’s more than coffee — it’s a small daily ceremony, a place to pause before the day begins while the scent of cedar and espresso mingles with the light shifting through the trees.

Each of Fjellsangin’s two bedrooms is its own retreat — grounded in natural light, softened by texture, and framed by the forest beyond.
King beds dressed in linen duvets and handknit wool throws invite deep rest, while custom Pendleton accents add warmth and a distinctly Pacific Northwest character. Wall-mounted 50” Roku TVs provide entertainment for slow evenings, complemented by waffle robes and in-room safes.
Locally sourced alder trim and minimalist details keep the focus on calm — light shifting across wood, the hush of trees outside, and the kind of morning stillness you came here to find.
The Bathrooms

Clean lines meet natural textures in Fjellsangin’s two full bathrooms — one upstairs, one down.
Soft neutral tile, wood accents, and filtered light create spaces that feel calm and quietly refined — an exhale after time outdoors. Each bath is stocked with Apotheke shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, chosen for their clean formulations and nature-inspired scent.
Grohe European shower hardware, featuring rainshower heads, brings a spa-like touch, pairing modern performance with timeless design. Plush cotton towels and waffle robes continue the cabin’s language of comfort — simple, sensory, and rooted in stillness.

A covered hot tub pavilion, anchored with locally sourced cedar logs, offers year-round soaking beneath the trees. A wireless JBL speaker in the pavilion sets the mood for slow evenings beneath the trees. The stone firepit, surrounded by natural boulder seating, invites long evenings under the stars with your first bundle of firewood included.
The expansive deck extends the living space outdoors with a dining table, lounge seating, and a gas grill for unhurried meals in the open air. Beside the hot tub, a pair of Adirondack chairs waits — the perfect spot for morning coffee or the last conversation of the night.
Nordic-Japanese garden pathways connect the cabin to the surrounding old-growth forest, while a Level 2 EV charging station and private driveway make arrival effortless.
