What to Pack


The weather near Mt. Rainier shifts quickly — misty mornings and cool evenings are common even in summer, so layers are your best friend. Beyond that: sturdy shoes or hiking boots for the trails, slippers or warm socks for inside the cabin, and a swimsuit and sandals for the sauna, hot tub, and outdoor shower. Fjellsangin is located in Ashford, Washington, just five minutes from the Nisqually Entrance to Mount Rainier National Park.

About two hours from Seattle, two and a half from Portland, and a little over an hour from Olympia. The drive winds through evergreens and small towns with cafés and farm stands worth a stop — it’s worth leaving with time to slow down before you arrive.

Life at the base of Mount Rainier moves with the rhythm of nature — mist, snowfall, rain, and sun each shaping the day. The cabin is built for comfort in every season, but mountain life can bring a few surprises.

Weather: Conditions near Mt. Rainier shift quickly. Even in summer, mornings are cool and evenings crisp. Pack layers and check forecasts before you travel.

Power: On rare occasions, storms may cause brief outages. Fjellsangin is equipped with a backup generator, flashlights, and lanterns to ensure your comfort until full power is restored.

Roads: In winter, 4WD or AWD is recommended for the drive to Ashford. Chains may be required for park access beyond the Nisqually Entrance. We’ll notify you if the weather is expected to affect travel.

WiFi: Reliable high-speed internet is provided throughout the cabin. Cell service may fade in the forest — a gentle cue to slow down.

Septic: Fjellsangin runs on a private septic system. Please flush only toilet paper and avoid pouring chemicals down drains to help protect the mountain environment.

Tucked beneath a cedar-anchored pavilion, the hot tub is open year-round — a perfect place to watch mist drift through the trees in any season.

Please shower before use, avoid oils or glassware near the tub, and replace the cover after each session to preserve warmth and water clarity.

A wireless JBL speaker is set up in the pavilion for ambient sound or a slow evening playlist. It's already set to a volume that carries well without carrying too far — we ask that guests leave it there, out of respect for the forest quiet and our neighbors.

  • Fjellsangin accommodates up to six guests, ages 12 and older. Both bedrooms feature king beds with premium linens and waffle robes, and the loft includes a queen sleeper sofa.

  • Check-in is at 4 PM, and check-out is at 11 AM.

  • No, Fjellsangin is a pet-free cabin. We maintain a pet-free environment to preserve the cabin’s serene atmosphere and accommodate guests with allergies. This applies to all animals, including emotional support animals, with the exception of ADA-recognized service dogs.

  • Cancellations made more than 30 days before check-in receive a full refund.

    Cancellations within 30 days of arrival are non-refundable. We recommend travel insurance for added peace of mind, especially during the winter months when mountain weather can affect travel plans.

  • Ashford is in a mountain climate. Roads are plowed regularly, but guests should be prepared for winter conditions between November and March. We recommend AWD or 4WD vehicles and keeping chains in your car. Refunds are not issued for weather-related travel delays or road closures beyond our control.

  • Yes — all guests must be 12 years of age or older. This policy applies to the full party, including children. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for the duration of their stay. We love that Fjellsangin brings people together, and this minimum age helps us maintain the serene, restorative atmosphere that makes the experience what it is.
